Remote Estate Planning

Remote ProbateRemote Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Administration Throughout California

Did you know that you can hire a California attorney for estate planning, probate, trust administration, elder law, and Medi-Cal planning without ever visiting my office? Today, many legal services can be provided remotely without sacrificing the personal attention, legal guidance, or responsiveness you deserve. I represent clients throughout California using Zoom, telephone, email, and secure electronic document sharing. Whether you live in San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, Palm Springs, Fresno, Sacramento, Redding, Eureka, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe, or anywhere in between, I can help you protect your family and your assets from the comfort of your own home.

Technology has changed the way professionals serve their clients. Just as many doctors now offer telehealth appointments and financial advisors meet with clients online, estate planning attorneys can provide high-quality legal representation remotely for most matters. You receive the same experienced legal advice, customized documents, and personal attention you would receive during an office meeting, without the inconvenience of travel.

Many of my clients appreciate the convenience of remote representation. They no longer have to spend hours driving through traffic, arranging transportation, or taking unnecessary time away from work or family responsibilities. Instead, we meet by Zoom or telephone at scheduled times that fit their busy lives.

Estate Planning Should Be Convenient Remote Closing Attorney

Creating an estate plan is one of the most important financial and legal decisions you will ever make. Unfortunately, many people postpone planning because they assume the process will require multiple office visits, lengthy appointments, and stacks of paperwork.

It does not have to be that way.

My goal is to make estate planning as convenient as possible while providing the personalized legal advice that every client deserves. Remote representation allows us to work together efficiently while still giving you ample opportunity to ask questions, review your documents, and make informed decisions.

Whether you are creating your first estate plan, updating an older trust, protecting your home from probate, planning for long-term care, or reviewing your existing documents after retirement, I will guide you through every step of the process.

Why Estate Planning Matters

Remote Closing DocumentsA carefully prepared estate plan can accomplish much more than simply deciding who receives your property.

A comprehensive estate plan can:

  • Help your family avoid probate.
  • Protect your home.
  • Preserve family wealth.
  • Minimize unnecessary legal expenses.
  • Appoint trusted individuals to manage your finances if you become incapacitated.
  • Appoint someone you trust to make health care decisions if you cannot communicate your wishes.
  • Simplify the administration of your estate after your death.
  • Coordinate beneficiary designations and real estate ownership.
  • Help prepare for future long-term care planning.

Every family has unique goals and concerns. That is why I prepare customized estate plans rather than relying upon generic online forms or one-size-fits-all documents.

A Simple Six-Step Estate Planning ProcessZoom Remote Estate Planning

Step 1: Schedule an Initial Consultation

Our first meeting is held by Zoom or telephone. During our conversation, we discuss your family, your assets, your goals, and any concerns you may have. We also discuss probate avoidance, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, Medi-Cal planning, and protecting your home. This consultation gives you the opportunity to ask questions and understand your options before making any decisions.

Step 2: Complete My Secure Online Questionnaire

After our consultation, I will send you a secure online questionnaire. The questionnaire allows you to provide the information necessary to prepare your estate planning documents at your own pace. You can complete it from home whenever it is convenient for you.

Remote Estate Planning DocumentsStep 3: I Prepare Your Customized Documents

After reviewing your information, I prepare documents specifically tailored to your needs. Depending upon your circumstances, your estate plan may include:

  • Revocable Living Trust
  • Certification of Trust
  • Financial Durable Power of Attorney
  • Advance Health Care Directive
  • Pour-Over Will
  • Assignment of Personal Property
  • California deeds transferring your home into your trust when appropriate

Every document is carefully prepared to reflect your individual wishes and comply with California law.

Step 4: Review Your Draft Documents

Once your documents are complete, I email draft copies for your review.

You may review them at your convenience, discuss them with family members if you wish, and send me any questions or requested revisions.

Many clients appreciate having time to carefully review their documents before signing.

Step 5: Final Review

We then schedule another Zoom or telephone meeting.

During this meeting, we review every document together.

I explain each document in plain English, answer your questions, and make any final revisions before signing.

I believe it is just as important that you understand your estate plan as it is that your documents are properly prepared.

Step 6: Sign Near Your Home

Most clients sign their estate planning documents before a local notary public.

If witnesses are required, I provide detailed written instructions to ensure everything is signed correctly.

Many communities also offer mobile notary services that will come directly to your residence if travel is difficult.

After your documents have been signed, I review the completed originals to verify that they have been properly executed.

Remote Probate DocumentsRemote Probate Representation Throughout California

If a loved one has passed away and probate is necessary, much of the legal work can be completed remotely.

I represent executors and administrators throughout California by Zoom, telephone, email, secure electronic document exchange, and traditional mail when necessary.

Court filings are submitted electronically whenever permitted, and many probate hearings either occur remotely or do not require the client’s personal appearance.

I guide clients through every stage of probate, including:

  • Opening the probate estate
  • Preparing court petitions
  • Providing required legal notices
  • Inventorying estate assets
  • Coordinating with the probate referee when required
  • Assisting with creditor matters
  • Preparing accountings
  • Transferring real estate
  • Distributing estate assets
  • Closing the probate

Whether you live near my office or several hundred miles away, I remain available to answer your questions throughout the administration.

Many Californians have living trusts rather than wills.

Although a living trust often avoids probate, the successor trustee still has important legal responsibilities. Administering a trust requires careful attention to California law and proper communication with beneficiaries. I assist trustees throughout California with:

  • Reviewing trust provisions
  • Preparing required notices
  • Notifying beneficiaries
  • Preparing certifications of trust
  • Collecting trust assets
  • Working with financial institutions
  • Transferring California real estate
  • Distributing trust assets
  • Completing the trust administration efficiently and correctly

Most trust administration matters can be handled remotely through Zoom meetings, telephone conferences, secure email, and electronic document exchange.

Medi-Cal Planning and Asset Protection

Planning ahead often provides families with significantly more options than waiting until a health crisis occurs. As part of my elder law practice, I assist clients with Medi-Cal planning and strategies designed to help protect family assets while complying with California law. Each family’s financial circumstances are different, so every recommendation should be based upon individualized legal advice rather than generalized internet information.

Proper planning today may provide greater flexibility and peace of mind tomorrow.
